In a recent report, ESPN‘s Mark Ogden revealed that Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is set to be offered a new contract. It is understood that the French midfield ace will be given a fresh offer to extend his stay with the Blues with his current deal at Stamford Bridge expiring in the summer of 2023 (via ESPN).
Kante’s Impressive Form At Stamford Bridge This Season
Kante has enjoyed another brilliant season with the West London outfit after producing a run of influential displays at the centre of Thomas Tuchel’s midfield. The French midfield ace has been involved in 48 matches for the Blues this term, picking up three assists in the process across all fronts.
More importantly, the 30-year-old has once again established himself as a consistent performer by averaging 2.6 tackles, 2.0 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
The French sensation has shown no signs of slowing down this season and deserves a lot of credit for putting in a match-winning display at the heart of Tuchel’s midfield against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final last month. Kante might still have a few good years left in him to play at the highest level, so securing his long-term future will be a wise move for Chelsea this summer.
Kante Set To Be Offered A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Kante has excellent defensive awareness that helps him make some crucial interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He is proficient at disrupting the opposition’s rhythm in the game and can clear the danger when in danger of being opened up at the back.
The Frenchman is good on the ball and can complete some energetic dribbles in the opposition half. Kante has also scored plenty of important goals for the Blues in the past and was at the centre of his team’s success in both domestic and European football during his Chelsea career.
The ex-Leicester City workhorse deserves a pay rise for all his incredible contributions at Stamford Bridge this season. Hence, the newly crowned European champions should prioritize extending Kante’s contract as it will be a good move for both the player and the West London club.
Chelsea will be able to compete for major trophies with an experienced and serial winner like Kante in their squad. At 30, Kante is better off staying at the English capital as he still has a good chance to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet while operating as the primary holding midfielder in Tuchel’s squad.
