Manchester City are ready to sign Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk. Pep Guardiola is keen to add defensive reinforcements as City have managed to keep only two clean sheets after his appointment. Ace defender Vincent Kompany’s injury has added woes to Pep’s strategy and the Spaniard now wants to sign Van Dijk to bolster his defence.
City have been searching for long-term replacements of Kompany and van Dijk would fit in perfectly. The Holland international has been excellent for Southampton this season and has also been linked with Liverpool.
City are through to the Champions League round of 16 and also are in Premier League title contention. Leaking goals could hamper their chances and Guardiola is ready to offload Kompany to make the way for the Dutchman.
Southampton have already started searching alternatives for van Dijk and have identified Spurs flop Kevin Wimmer as one of their targets.
Van Dijk is valued around £11.5m by the Saints and they won’t sell the defender lesser than that.
