West Ham United managed to end their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend which ensured a sixth-place finish for them in the league table. The Hammers are now guaranteed European football for next season that would make David Moyes quite happy even though his men were in contention of securing a top-four spot a few weeks ago.
West Ham’s 2020-21 Premier League Season Review: Major Talking Points
The East London outfit made an inconsistent start to the campaign with two wins and two losses in league football. However, they struggled to pick up any victories in the month of December and slid down to the tenth position on Christmas Day.
Since the turn of the year, David Moyes’ players found some form as they secured impressive wins over Everton, Burnley, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace to get themselves back in the race for European football.
However, despite being consistent in the latter stages of this campaign, West Ham suffered an unexpected 1-0 home loss against Everton and were held to a 1-1 draw away at Brighton which put them out of contention for UEFA Champions League football next season. Even then, the Hammers managed to earn a place in the next edition of the UEFA Europa League which will be a welcome bit of news for anyone associated with the East London club.
West Ham’s Best Players Of The 2020-21 Premier League Season
Tomas Soucek
The Czech playmaker managed to finish the season with ten goals and one assist to his name and was a part of West Ham’s first team for all 38 Premier League matches. He was one of the best performers in David Moyes’ starting XI and was undeniably a Hammer of the year contender.
Angelo Ogbonna
The Italian centre-back has been a rock at the back for the East London giants and was one of the main reasons behind their top-four push in the English top-flight this season. Ogbonna did well to average 0.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per game in league football (stats via whoscored).
Jesse Lingard
Since arriving on loan from Manchester United back in January, Lingard has given a good account of himself by netting nine goals and grabbing five assists for West Ham in all competitions. He has been a breath of fresh air while on loan at the London Stadium and deserves a mention on this list.
