According to ESPN, Tottenham have been offered Tammy Abraham and Kepa by Chelsea, in a player plus cash deal to sign Harry Kane this summer. It is widely known that the Spurs striker is unsettled at the club and is expected to move elsewhere, putting Chelsea on red alert. The Blues are among many clubs vying for the services of Kane as he looks to take the next step in his career.
Tammy Abraham: A Replacement For Kane At Tottenham?
Chelsea willing to part ways with Tammy Abraham is hardly surprising, as the forward, despite his lethal record in front of goal, has found it difficult to settle into the scheme of things under Thomas Tuchel.
He is not rated at all by the German, who is keen on offloading him in the summer. A move to Tottenham, in that regard, might not be a bad option for both the parties involved, since the Lilywhites do require reinforcements in the attacking department.
Abraham, though, is not a replacement for Kane by any stretch of the imagination. The two are simply not the same in terms of skill, quality and style of play.
The former Aston Villa forward, though, does have a lot of pace and might turn out to be an ideal replacement for someone like Carlos Vinicius, whose loan spell will expire at the end of the season.
How Does Kepa Fit In?
Kepa Arrizabalaga could be a much better fit at Tottenham than Abraham, as the north London giants are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris has been an excellent servant over the years, but his days in England could soon to be over, with the club lacking any long-term options.
That is where Kepa could make sense, as the Spaniard does have a lot of quality despite his horrendous ongoing spell at Stamford Bridge. A product of the Athletic Bilbao youth academy, the goalkeeper is adept in possession and could even be an upgrade over Lloris, as far as the sweeping skills are concerned.
With the right amount of guidance, Kepa could be an ideal number one at Tottenham, saving Daniel Levy from making the effort to find a new one in the market this year.
Should Tottenham Go For The Deal?
Abraham and Kepa are not bad options for Tottenham at all and may even turn out to be assets if nurtured properly. However, Chelsea will surely look to squeeze the majority of Kane’s transfer value by including these two fringe players – ultimately offering very little in cash for the services of the Spurs forward.
It doesn’t bode well for Tottenham, who can certainly find cheaper alternatives for Kepa while they do need the Kane money to fund a move for an actual top-class replacement rather than signing a subpar backup like Abraham.
Therefore. the deal certainly doesn’t make sense for the Lilywhites, unless Chelsea are willing to pay somewhere in the region of €80m-€90m in cash in addition to the aforementioned players this summer.
