According to Telegraph, Leeds United are interested in Santiago Moreno. The talented right-winger, who currently plies his trade for Colombian top-flight outfit CD America, could be on the verge of a move to the UK this summer, with the Whites reportedly involved in a three-way battle, along with Rangers and Southampton for his services.
Who Is Santiago Moreno?
A product of the CD America youth academy, Santiago Moreno has been one of the rising stars in the Colombian top flight over the past couple of years. He has emerged as a key first-team player for his club, featuring in 17 matches in the 2021 season – being involved in a total of eight goals in Liga Dimayor I.
Moreno has been involved in the Copa Libertadores as well, this year, featuring in five matches and scoring two goals, even though CD America have not performed particularly well in the competition.
A right-winger by trade, the 21-year-old is an explosive attacker who likes to take on opposing defenders. Blessed with raw pace, Moreno can be a scourge for the opponents due to his ability to make darting runs in behind the defence while his lethal right foot makes him quite productive in front of goal.
It is also why the Colombian has been likened to Sadio Mane, and he could soon follow the footsteps of the Senegalese international by joining the Premier League in the summer.
Is Moreno A Good Option For Leeds United?
Leeds United will be in need of reinforcements in the attacking department this summer, as they brace themselves for the potential departures of Rodrigo Moreno and Pablo Hernandez. Helder Costa, too, has fallen out of favour, which could force Marcelo Bielsa to enter the market for a new winger.
Santiago Moreno could be an interesting option given his success at CD America this year. His style of play is ideally suited for the Premier League and most importantly for Leeds United, who like to play direct attacking football.
The 21-year-old’s pace and dynamism, in that regard, could be useful. From a sporting perspective, though, Moreno is a risky option given his lack of experience in European football, meaning the attacker might take some time settling into the Premier League.
At Leeds United, he can be considered as an ideal backup to the likes of Raphinha and Jack Harrison. However, a lot could depend on how much America demand for the services of their dynamic winger this summer.
