Liverpool locked horns with Burnley at Turf Moor earlier tonight as they looked to pick up maximum points on the road and get back to the fourth spot in the Premier League table. The Reds made a dominant start to the game but struggled to be clinical in the final third. Roberto Firmino finally gave the visitors the lead when he scored with a tidy finish in the 43rd minute. The Merseyside outfit went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
Nathaniel Phillips gave Liverpool a dream start to the second half as he found the back of the net with a great header from close range. The Reds managed to see the game out with ease and scored another goal when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got his name on the scoresheet in the 88th minute. Jurgen Klopp’s men ended up securing an impressive 3-0 victory away at Lancashire.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against the Clarets.
GK: Alisson Becker – 8.5/10
The Brazilian keeper was a commanding figure inside his penalty box and came out to collect plenty of crosses during the game. He also made a few solid saves and kept an impressive clean sheet away from home.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
The English full-back was solid when defending inside his half and passed the ball with conviction from the right flank.
CB: Nathaniel Phillips – 8.5/10
Phillips was strong in the air and did enough to restrict Burnley’s Chris Wood from scoring during the 90 minutes. He managed to score his first goal for Liverpool with a powerful header from close range and also made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep his clean sheet intact.
CB: Rhys Williams – 7/10
Williams had a few nervy moments at the back but deserves credit for showing character and getting over the line with all three points and a valuable clean sheet in the bag.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 8/10
The Scotland international was full of energy and running down the left flank. He created several key chances for his teammates and ended the game with two assists to his name for setting up Firmino’s opener and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 8/10
The Spaniard ran the show at the centre of the park as he produced another passing masterclass. He cut open the Burnley quite a few times during the game and seems to be growing in confidence with each game.
CM: Fabinho – 7/10
Fabinho did what was asked of him in midfield and managed to offer some decent protection for his teammates at the back.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 6.5/10
He kept the ball moving without creating too many meaningful chances in the attacking third.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 7/10
The Egyptian winger made some dangerous sprints in behind the Burnley defence. However, there was no goal for him tonight.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 7/10
The Brazilian striker kept his composure and opened the goal-scoring with a good strike. He played some neat passes but ran out of gas and got replaced in the second half.
LW: Sadio Mane – 7.5/10
Mane was guilty of missing a sitter in the first half. However, he kept pushing and set up Phillips’ goal with an excellent cross.
Substitutes:
ST: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8/10
The English talent produced a moment of magic when he showed great skill and found the back of the net with a ferocious left-footed strike.
