Despite losing the momentum of late, Everton might still secure a place in Europe next season if they regain form and register a strong finish including a Sunday afternoon victory against the high-flying West Ham United. The Hammers are in contention for a Champions League berth and the fixture at London Stadium might produce an end-to-end contest with both teams aiming for victory to meet their respective season goals.
The Toffees, meanwhile, have won more away games (11) versus West Ham than any other outfit in Premier League’s history. Also, their form in London is exquisite with four wins in five outings so far this campaign. A disappointing home defeat against Aston Villa cast doubt over their resilience and Carlo Ancelotti, the Goodison Park chief, must motivate his men to answer the critics by defeating the former Everton gaffer David Moyes.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Everton Lineup To Face West Ham United
Defence
Jordan Pickford had a mixed season overall between the sticks. He had some majestic performances but, at the same time, delivered a few sloppy shows that forced Ancelotti to bring in Robin Olsen replacing the ex-Sunderland custodian. Yet the Englishman must keep his place and deliver a steady display this weekend.
Michael Keane lost his playing following two costly errors against Spurs. However, the experienced Englishman should return to partner Ben Godfrey in the heart of the backline. Skipper Seamus Coleman must operate from his usual right-back spot, whereas Lucas Digne is expected to impress once more from the left with his usual overlapping runs, crosses and link-up football. Mason Holgate would make way for Keane in such a scenario, particularly after his erroneus outing versus the Villans.
Midfield
Although the injury misfortune continues for Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Ancelotti is delighted to welcome back Abdoulaye Doucoure who has recovered from an ankle injury. The Frenchman must return to the starting lineup straightaway and combine with Allan as a double pivot deep down the midfield.
With James Rodriguez ruled out with a calf strain, Alex Iwobi must keep his place down the right-hand flank. In-form Gylfi Sigurðsson should operate from his preferred ‘number 10’ role and the swift footwork, runs and poaching traits of Richarlison would keep the Irons defence on their toes. The likes of Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Bernard would look to make an impact as substitutes.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation this season high up the pitch and the Three Lions sensation would once again spearhead the Toffees attack with 15 goals so far from 28 league appearances.
