Liverpool will entertain Southampton at Anfield on Saturday night as they desperately look to return to winning ways in the Premier League by picking up all three points at home. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw in their last league game at Anfield, so they will be eager to produce a much-improved showing this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp will once again opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make one change to his team for this game. Nathaniel Phillips will probably get the nod to start in central defence which would free up Fabinho to operate in his usual holding midfield role. However, Diogo Jota could find himself on the bench for this clash.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
Alisson Becker will feature in between the sticks for the Merseyside giants after shipping in one goal against the Magpies last month. As mentioned earlier, Nathaniel Phillips will get a start in central defence alongside Ozan Kabak as they try to maintain a good shape at the back and restrict the Saints from scoring during the 90 minutes.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will function as the right-back while Andrew Robertson fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Klopp will allow both his full-backs to express themselves in the Southampton half so that they can orchestrate some clear-cut chances for their teammates up top.
Rhys Williams and Neco Williams are likely to offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara could make up the Liverpool midfield this weekend. All three of them would have to figure out a way to dominate the midfield battle so that they can push up the pitch in the hopes of creating some meaningful openings in the final third.
Curtis Jones, James Milner and Naby Keita will be available for selection on the bench and could come on to influence the game in the latter stages if required.
Attack
Sadio Mane could get another chance to shine as a left-sided winger. He needs to have a good game if Liverpool are to come out on top this weekend. On the other side, Mohamed Salah would look to weave his magic from the right flank. Roberto Firmino is expected to get the responsibility to spearhead Klopp’s attack on Saturday night.
Diogo Jota and Xherdan Shaqiri will have to be content with a spot on the bench as they wait for their chance to shine as the impact substitutes if Klopp decides to call upon their services.
