In a recent report, The Northern Echo has revealed that Newcastle United are planning to extend Fabian Schar’s contract before the UEFA European Championships later this summer. The 29-year-old has only managed to play a sporadic role in Steve Bruce’s first team as he has missed a lot of matches due to multiple injuries. Schar has made 18 appearances for the Magpies this term, picking up five yellow cards on all fronts.
However, the Wil-born talent has managed to be a decent defender at the back for Newcastle after averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 2.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. Despite his recent injury concerns, Schar has the experience and defensive skillset to play another influential role for the Magpies in the coming seasons.
