In a recent interview with Sky Sports, ex-Premier League midfielder Roy Keane urged his former club Manchester United to move in for Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish this summer. Keane labelled the Villa captain as a ‘special player’ and said,
“The two players who I’ve thought about over the last few weeks who I feel would be brilliant for Man Utd are Harry Kane up front – whatever it costs – and I’d go with Jack Grealish. I feel United are still short of that special player. I think Grealish would give them that and I feel he would enjoy playing at Old Trafford.
“The fans would love him. What I admire about Jack is he’s got great courage on the football pitch. He always wants the ball in tight areas. We’ve seen over the last year or two his end product has improved. He’s an excellent player and obviously, Kane would guarantee goals.
“Would it be difficult to get these two players? You bet your life it would be, but Man Utd have to go out and try to sign the best otherwise we’ll be having the same conversations next year about being nearly there. Jack would be ready for Man Utd. He’s done well for Aston Villa, a brilliant club who are doing very well, but Jack’s got to be selfish.
“He’s got to look to step up to the next level.”
Grealish’s Excellent Yet Injury Plagued Season At Villa Park
Despite his long lay-off due to a shinbone injury, Grealish deserves a lot of praise for producing several match-winning displays for the Villans this season. The Birmingham-born talent has taken part in 23 matches for the West Midlands club this term, netting seven goals and grabbing 12 assists across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a consistent performer on the left side of Dean Smith’s attack based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 2.1 shots, 3.4 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football this season. He has even been exceptional when distributing the ball in the attacking end of the field, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 83.2% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Will Grealish Be A Good Choice For The Red Devils?
Grealish is one of the best dribblers in the Premier League and can be a hard man to stop when he is running at full swing in the opposition half. He can shoot the ball with a lot of venom and accuracy. The five-time England international is also an excellent crosser of the ball and can be a real goal-threat from dead-ball situations. Plus, he has shown great leadership and can dominate games on his own when he is fit and firing on all cylinders.
At 25, Grealish is about to embark upon the prime stage of his football career, so the Red Devils can expect to make the most of his services if they can engineer a big-money move to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams in this off-season.
All in all, Grealish will be a great choice for Man United as he will add a lot of goals and creativity to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack. His leadership and ability to win a game on his own make him a brilliant option for the Red Devils manager to consider during the summer transfer period.
