Rangers’ sheer dominance over Celtic remains intact this season as they defeat their bitter rivals 4-1 in an end-to-end Old Firm derby. The Gers had a perfect start with an early goal, and the marching order of Callum McGregor handed them a massive uplift en route to scripting a 4-1 Ibrox victory on Sunday afternoon.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their commanding 4-1 win against Celtic.
Allan McGregor: 7.5
Made a massive save moments before Roofe’s opener. Was spot on with timely stops, but could have done little to deny Odsonne Edouard’s early equaliser, which once again exposed the Bears’ frailty while defending corners.
James Tavernier: 7.5
Was rusty with his tackles and unsuccessful with a few dribbling attempts. But the skipper was a constant threat with his trademark overlapping runs, crosses and cut insides to create menace in opponents’ defence.
Connor Goldson: 7
The end-to-end affair put the Englishman exposed at times while the Hoops were staging counterattacks. But he did his job with sheer composure and succeeded in containing the likes of Elyounoussi and Edouard.
Jack Simpson: 7
Injuries to Filip Helander and Leon Balogun saw him earning a start alongside Goldson. Had some nervy occasions initially, but the former Bournemouth centre-half did the basics right by being in the right place at the right time. Made some no-nonsense clearances and quick recoveries to nullify Celtic attacks.
Borna Barisic: 8
Kept on making marauding overlapping runs and whipped in an exquisite cross for Roofe to grab his second of the afternoon. Could have done better defensively, but the impact he had high up the pitch helped the hosts dominate the show from the flanks. Was taken off to be replaced by Scott Wright late in the match.
Steven Davis: 8.5
Orchestrated the game from the middle of the park and made a massive tackle late in the first half to deny Edouard. This could have staged a Celtic comeback against the odds.
Glen Kamara: 7.5
Played his part in an array of build-ups, including the one that led to Roofe’s opener. His runs, link-up play and persistent movements helped Rangers stamp their authority in the centre of the pitch.
Joe Aribo: 7.5
Lively all throughout with his down the middle runs, smart one-twos and attacking flair from in and around the box. Had an attempt denied by Scott Bain in the Celtic goal.
Kemar Roofe: 9
His lethargic display versus Saint Johnstone led to criticism, but the versatile attacker proved his worth this time with a couple of goals. Did not have many touches, however, was menacing whenever he had the ball on his feet. Made way for Jermain Defoe late in the match.
Ryan Kent: 8.5
Impressed once again as he set it up for Roofe to grab an early lead. Kept on creating chances from the left-hand flank and the Bhoys backline had no answer to his pace, power and prowess in the attacking third.
Alfredo Morelos: 8.5
Restored the lead moments after Edouard’s equaliser. Had a couple of efforts saved by Bain, and the Colombian thoroughly exhibited his supremacy while spearheading the Gers’ frontline. Made way for Ianis Hagi late in the game.
Rangers Substitutes Vs Celtic
Scott Wright: 7
Enjoyed his minutes with energetic runs and a few attacking movements.
Ianis Hagi: 7
Made a contribution by setting it up for Defoe to make the scoreline 4-1.
Jermain Defoe: 7
The veteran forward made no mistake in finding the net after picking it up from the Romanian.
