In a recent report, The Sun has stated that Chelsea are ready to step up their pursuit of Inter Milan forward Romalu Lukaku during the summer transfer window. It is believed that the Blues are lining up a £90m-plus offer to bring the Belgian international back to Stamford Bridge this summer (via The Sun).
Lukaku’s Sensational Goal-Scoring Record At San Siro This Season
Lukaku has been in a rich vein of form for the Milan giants over the past ten months as he has put in a series of goal-scoring displays as the focal point of Antonio Conte’s attack. The 27-year-old has netted 27 goals and secured eight assists in 40 matches for the Italian outfit this term across all competitions.
The Antwerpen-born attacker has been a consistent performer as Inter’s primary centre-forward because he is averaging 2.7 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football this season. However, Lukaku needs to be more careful when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third after completing 72.3% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italy (stats via whoscored).
The former Manchester United marksman has already proven his worth in the Premier League, so he won’t take any time settling in life in English football if Thomas Tuchel can agree on a deal to lure him to West London in this off-season.
What Will The Belgian Striker Bring To Stamford Bridge?
Standing at 1.91m, Lukaku is a powerful and dominant presence inside the opposition penalty box as he can use his strength to get the better of his marker up top. He excels at generating space for himself that helps him to get a strike in on-target. The 91-time Belgium international is an unforgiving finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and usually packs a lot of venom with his shot attempts. Hence, he will be a perfect addition to Thomas Tuchel’s match-day squad at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Lukaku will bring plenty of goals as well as some physicality and athleticism to Chelsea’s frontline that has often flattered to deceive this season. Tammy Abraham has been far too injury-prone since the managerial appointment of Tuchel while both Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud have struggled to find consistency in terms of their productivity in the final third.
Thus, it makes a lot of sense for the Blues head coach to invest a huge portion of his transfer kitty on a new and experienced forward. Lukaku fits the bill perfectly as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what’s required to be a prolific goal-scorer for Chelsea once again if he decides to return to his former club this summer.
