In a recent interview with Sky Sports, former Premier League defender Micah Richards urged Tottenham Hotspur to keep hold of Harry Kane as he believes that the identity of the next Spurs manager could hinge on the striker’s future. Richards said,
“It depends on if they keep Harry Kane or not. That will have an impact on who takes the Spurs job, if we’re being realistic. If you sold your striker, which might happen now, that will dictate who the manager will be.
“You always look at rebuilding, but if you lose your talisman, it’s a massive impact. Anyone who has tried to come in and be second choice to Harry Kane, it hasn’t worked out. That’s Spurs’ priority now, get him nailed down, and then worry about the manager afterwards.”
Kane’s Incredible Goal-Scoring Numbers At North London This Season
On a personal front, Kane is having another outstanding campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he has put in several match-winning performances for Spurs over the past ten months. The 27-year-old has banged in 31 goals and provided 16 assists in 44 matches for the North London giants this term across all competitions.
The London-born talent has done well to influence the game in both halves based on his average of 0.7 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 3.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in this Premier League campaign. However, he needs to be a bit better when linking up play with others around him after making 69.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Why Daniel Levy Cannot Allow Kane To Leave This Summer
Kane is still one of the most prolific strikers in world football. He has a good football IQ and can make some well-timed runs to beat the offside trap in the opposition half. What makes the England international so great is his poacher’s instincts inside the opponent’s penalty box.
Plus, he has also formed great chemistry with Heung-min Son over the past few seasons. Therefore, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy simply cannot afford to lose his star forward because they will struggle to find a capable replacement for him, especially without Champions League football on offer next season.
Kane is a generational talent, so Spurs cannot allow him to leave even if they receive a big offer for his services this summer. Levy should take Micah Richards’ advice by trying everything in his power to keep the English forward happy at North London for the duration of his contract which runs out in the summer of 2024.
