Amid the Super League mayhem and fans’ outrage, Arsenal hosted Everton at the Emirates earlier tonight. The Toffees were having a rough run of late but are still pretty much in contention for a ‘top four’ place. They had to secure a victory tonight to stay in the hunt, and a howler from Bernd Leno earned them the desired outcome late in the match.
Below are the Everton players rated in their 1-0 win against Arsenal.
Everton Players Rated In Their Dramatic Win Vs Arsenal
Jordan Pickford: 7.5
Made a crucial acrobatic save to deny Dani Ceballos from 20-yard out. Flicked away Gabriel Martinelli’s strike moments before the final whistle and, therefore, defended the one-goal lead to cement all three points from the Emirates.
Seamus Coleman: 7
Was handed a start after making an impression against Tottenham Hotspur since coming on as a second-half substitute. Kept on making overlapping runs from the right and whipping in crosses and key passes to create opportunities in the attacking third. Tracked back and recovered the space when the Gunners were staging counterattacks. Looked a bit fatigued in the closing seconds leading to Martinelli’s chance for the equaliser.
Ben Godfrey: 8
Delivered yet another headstrong defensive display with timely tackles, no-nonsense clearances and interceptions. Won the majority of duels and, therefore, could not be breached by the hosts in the closing moments.
Mason Holgate: 7
Had some nervy occasions and conceded a few needless fouls. But was spot on with his tackles and did well to partner Godfrey in the heart of the backline in the absence of Michael Keane.
Lucas Digne: 7.5
Although the crosses were not accurate all the time, his lively presence down the flank made it difficult for Arsenal to utilise the width of the pitch through Bukayo Saka. Maintained his balance between attack and defence.
Allan: 7
The Brazilian was smart enough to break down the Gunners’ moves in the middle of the park. He never allowed the home side to settle down and kept on committing tactical fouls to break down the tempo of the North London giants.
Andre Gomes: 7
Had a strong presence in midfield. Did well to keep things calm and hold possession under pressure from the North Londoners. Was taken off midway through the second half to be replaced by Fabian Delph.
Gylfi Sigurdsson: 7.5
The Icelandic playmaker is in majestic form of late. But he could not find the net tonight as his free-kick hit the woodwork late in the first half. Looked menacing with the ball on his feet.
James Rodriguez: 5.5
A quiet afternoon for the Colombian who offered little in terms of creating chances from behind the attacking third. Could not make much impact from the wide either. Made way for Tom Davies with minutes remaining in the game.
Richarlison: 7.5
His foul inside the box resulted in a penalty which, however, got ruled out by VAR as Nicolas Pepe was marginally offside in the build-up. Made the difference though, as his low cross led to Leno’s disastrous own goal. Was taken off in the closing minutes and made way for Yerry Mina.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 6
Could not convert the opportunities and found himself isolated on the majority of occasions. Had the least touches of any outfield player to play 90 minutes.
