The Athletic has recently reported that Chelsea are intensifying their efforts to recruit Niklas Sule from Bayern Munich this summer. It has been revealed that the Blues are prepared to gain some ground in their attempt to recruit the German centre-back, who could be available for around £30m during the summer transfer window (via The Athletic).
Sule’s Excellent Form For Bayern Munich This Season
Sule has enjoyed a solid season at the Allianz Arena after putting in a run of dominant displays at the heart of Hans-Dieter Flick’s defence. The German sensation has featured in 32 matches for the Bavarian outfit this term, scoring two goals in the process across all competitions.
The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per game in this Bundesliga campaign. He has also been exceptional with his ball distribution by completing 90.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
With Sule’s contract with the Munich outfit set to run out in the summer of 2022, the Bayern chiefs will have no choice but to cash in on him for a cut-price fee which could open the door for the Blues to seal a move for him this summer.
Will Sule Be A Good Fit For The West London Club?
Sule is a defensive powerhouse who can use his strong 1.95m frame to dominate the opposition in the air. He hardly gets caught when going in for aerial duels and can be a rock at the back which makes him a great option for Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer.
The German centre-back has enough pace to make some important recovering runs inside his half and is proficient at timing his tackles well to earn possession back for his team. If Sule can maintain his high standards in the Premier League, he could potentially be a shrewd signing for the Blues in this off-season.
The Bayern Munich star could serve as an upgrade over Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons. Plus, he has the experience and the winning mindset to be a success story at the English capital if Tuchel can bring him on board in the summer.
At 25, Sule is currently playing some of the best football of his career, so he will be an excellent fit for Chelsea where he could continue to develop into a world-class player under a great man-manager like Tuchel.
