Manchester City locked horns with Chelsea at Wembley Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up a win and progress into the FA Cup final. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but were lacklustre in the final third as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The Blues made a bright start to the second half and took the lead in the 55th minute courtesy of Hakim Ziyech’s finish. That goal turned out to be the only one in the game as the match ended with Man City suffering a narrow 1-0 loss at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against the Blues.
GK: Zack Steffen – 6.5/10
Steffen made a couple of decent saves and distributed the ball well during the game. However, he couldn’t do much to prevent Ziyech’s second-half goal.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 6/10
The Portuguese full-back got stuck in with some tackles but struggled to win the ball back for his side. He made two promising runs during the game but offered very little in the final third.
CB: Ruben Dias – 6/10
Dias made a few important clearances to keep the Blues frustrated for long periods of the game. However, he won’t be pleased after conceding a goal early in the second half.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 6.5/10
The French defensive ace cleared his lines when called into action. He was strong in the air and passed the ball well out from the back.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 6/10
Mendy maintained a solid defensive shape but failed to influence the game in the Chelsea half. It was another average display from him this evening.
CM: Rodri – 7.5/10
The Spaniard did well to assist his teammates by mopping up the danger on the defensive end of the field. He was excellent on the ball as well but couldn’t take any of the opportunities that fell in his path.
CM: Fernandinho – 6.5/10
The Brazilian veteran managed to disrupt Chelsea’s rhythm in the game by making a few well-timed challenges. However, he struggled to create chances going forward.
RM: Raheem Sterling – 6/10
Sterling has some lively moments in the final third but there was no goal or assist for him this evening.
CAM: Kevin De Bruyne – 6/10
The Belgian international orchestrated a couple of meaningful openings during his time on the field. He got substituted early in the second half after picking up a knock.
LM: Ferran Torres – 5/10
Torres struggled to get into the flow of the match and got replaced after the hour mark.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 6/10
The Brazilian striker had his moments but lacked the cutting edge in front of the Chelsea goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Phil Foden – 7/10
Foden produced a nice cameo off the bench. He caused a few problems for the Chelsea defenders but failed to score the equaliser for his team.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6/10
He added some energy to the Man City midfield but never got a sniff at goal.
