Borussia Dortmund bow out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 2-1 to Manchester City this evening. The result took the aggregate to 4-2 with the Citizens grinding a win after an impressive second-half display. Dortmund, though, could call themselves unlucky following two controversial decision that went against them throughout the two matches.
Borussia Dortmund Player Ratings Vs Manchester City
Marwin Hitz 7/10
Marwin Hitz fared better than one would expect, making a few good saves to keep his team in the battle. Ultimately beaten by Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez from the penalty spot.
Mateu Morey 6/10
Mateu Morey started out in a nervy fashion but looked good at times, defensively. Needs some polishing up if he is to transform into a solid right-back for Borussia Dortmund.
Manuel Akanji 7/10
Manuel Akanji produced a good display for Dortmund at centre-back. He was solid in dealing with the pressure and looked good alongside Mats Hummels for the most part.
Mats Hummels 7/10
Hummels’ experience was vital in helping Dortmund retain their composure in the backline. He was dealt with too much quality in the shape of this Man City squad, though.
Raphael Guerreiro 5/10
Didn’t really have the best of games as the Portuguese international struggled to influence the game going forward. Should have done much better from his position.
Emre Can 5/10
Emre Can was once again the culprit for Dortmund as he conceded the penalty that offered Manchester City a way back into the game. He is simply far too error-prone.
Jude Bellingham 7.5/10
Jude Bellingham was the star of the show for Borussia Dortmund. He impacted the game greatly with his aggression, passion and quality. Scored the early goal for the home side.
Mahmoud Dahoud 6.5/10
Mahmoud Dahoud started the game well, playing a key role in the build-up play. Could’ve been a bit more consistent with his attacking game though.
Ansgar Knauff 4/10
Ansgar Knauff had troubles influencing the game after starting ahead of players like Thorgan Hazard, Giovanni Reyna and Julian Brandt. Needs more experience at the highest level.
Marco Reus 5/10
Marco Reus worked hard for his team, as usual, but could not really make too many opportunities going forward. Simply not his night.
Erling Haaland 5/10
Erling Haaland was a spectator for the most part of the game as Dortmund struggled to create anything going forward. Needs to offer more in the final third.
