Everton’s season is going southwards after a convincing start to their season, picking up 4 wins on the trot. Ronald Koeman has seen his team faltering on many occasions since then, dropping points against weak opponents and getting totally washed away against bigger teams.
The Dutch boss has even stated that their star striker Romelu Lukaku, who has been in a scintillating form so far scoring 7 and assisting 3 in his 13 appearances, would get more opportunities to flourish in bigger clubs considering his composure on the ball and scoring abilities.
The 23-year-old was also heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain last summer but Everton were very much unwilling to let him go. However, after Koeman’s comments, it is now very uncertain that the Merseyside club will show such restraint if PSG firm up their interest with an official bid when the transfer window reopens in January, which the French giants are already plotting according to reports.
Lukaku is the best player by far in the whole Everton squad and him leaving will give Koeman some pretty big shoes to fill. T4O looks at 3 replacements Everton could opt for if the Belgian leaves.
Mario Mandžukić
The 30-year-old is currently in his second season at Juventus after signing from Atletico Madrid in 2015. He is currently being valued at £18 million by the Serie A champions, with his contract expiring in 2018. The summer arrival of Gonzalo Higuaín and form of Pablo Dybala means Super Mario is not guaranteed regular football in the Serie A.
At 190cm, he could easily be a target man up front. The Croatian striker has an excellent aerial ability and is the perfect option for a manager wanting someone to hold the ball up top and bring others into the game.
