West Ham United welcomed Leicester City at the London Stadium earlier today as they looked to pick up maximum points and go back to the fourth spot in the Premier League table. The Hammers made a bright start to the game and scored the opening goal in the 29th minute courstesy of Jesse Lingard’s excellent volley. The English playmaker went on to double his team’s lead just before the half-time break.
Jarrod Bowen put daylight between the two sides when he scored from close range just three minutes into the second half. Kelechi Iheanacho scored two consolation goals for Leicester in the latter stages of the game but David Moyes’ men hung on to claim a narrow 3-2 win at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Polish keeper made a couple of saves but won’t be pleased after conceding two goals in the final quarter of the game.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
Coufal was strong in the air and kept things solid at the back. He also finished the game with an assist to his name.
CB: Issa Diop – 7/10
The French defensive ace made a couple of crucial interceptions and deserves credit for clearing his lines when called into action.
CB: Craig Dawson – 6/10
He made two interceptions and even blocked a goal-bound shot. However, Dawson won’t be happy after conceding two late goals today.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 6.5/10
He was defensively solid but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third. Cresswell had to go off early in the second half because of a hamstring injury.
CM: Mark Noble – 6/10
Noble worked his socks off in midfield and earned the ball back on a couple of times for his side. He offered very little in the opposition half.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
He helped his teammates out on the defensive end of the field and successfully disrupted Leicester’s flow in the game.
RM: Pablo Fornals – 6/10
Fornals showed some glimpses of his brilliance but never looked like he had a goal in him.
CAM: Jesse Lingard – 8.5/10
The English sensation continued his excellent form by scoring a brilliant opening goal. He also doubled his tally close to half-time, putting West Ham in pole position to snatch the three points.
LM: Arthur Masuaku – 6/10
Masuaku was sloppy on the ball at times and was responsible for throwing away possession in the lead-up to Leicester’s first goal. However, he was full of energy and running down the left flank.
ST: Jarrod Bowen – 8/10
Bowen caused all kinds of problems for the Leicester centre-backs and managed to get his name on the scoresheet early in the second half to wrap up the points for his team.
Substitutes:
CB: Fabian Balbuena – 6/10
He made a couple of clearances but won’t be pleased after allowing two goals on his watch.
LB: Ben Johnson – N/A
Johnson hardly had any time to make an impact.
CAM: Said Benrahma – N/A
He didn’t get enough playing time to warrant a rating.
