Manchester United faced off against Granada at Estadio Nuevo Los Caramenes earlier tonight as they looked to pick up a positive result in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League. The visitors broke the deadlock around the half-hour mark as Marcus Rashford converted from Victor Lindelof’s perfectly-measured long ball. United dominated the proceedings for the majority of the match but the Nazaries created some good chances in the second forty-five minutes. Finally, it was Bruno Fernandes who converted the penalty around the 90-minute-mark to extend United’s lead to 2-0 in the first leg.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the clash against the Nazaries.
David de Gea – 7/10
The Spanish shot-stopper was hardly troubled between the sticks tonight. Nonetheless, he did just enough to secure a clean sheet on his return.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5/10
Wan-Bissaka made some crucial tackles and challenges to prevent the opposition from creating menace down the right flank.
Victor Lindelof – 8/10
The Swedish defender played a brilliant long ball to Marcus Rashford around the half-hour mark which was subsequently converted by the Englishman. Apart from that, he looked solid at the back as he made some important interceptions to stop the Granada frontmen from finding the back of the net.
Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
The skipper was in full control of things at the back tonight. He coordinated well with Lindelof and kept things tidy throughout the 90 minutes.
Luke Shaw – 6.5/10
The English full-back looked a bit careless down the left-flank tonight as a result of which he ended up picking up an unnecessary yellow card in the first half.
Paul Pogba – 7/10
The French midfielder put up a decent performance but he held on to the ball for too long at times which affected the speed of the build-up.
Scott McTominay – 6.5/10
The Scottish international was way too aggressive at times. However, his ball distribution was decent.
Marcus Rashford – 9/10
The Englishman provided the visitors with the lead around the 31-minute-mark but his ankle kept bothering him throughout the game. He was eventually replaced at the 66-minute-mark.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
The Portuguese international was far from his best tonight as he often struggled to create chances for his side. Nonetheless, he extended the visitors’ lead by converting the penalty in the 90th minute.
Daniel James – 6.5/10
The Welshman remained anonymous on the wing for the majority of the game. He gave away the ball way too easily on a couple of occasions as well.
Mason Greenwood – 6/10
The youngster was perhaps not on the same wavelength as his teammates tonight. He struggled to get past his opponents in the opposition half and didn’t look too convincing in the attacking third either.
SUBSTITUTES:
Alex Telles – 6/10
The Brazilian international didn’t have much to do after coming on.
Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The Uruguayan striker provided the visitors with some extra energy going forward.
Nemanja Matic – 6/10
The Serbian international added the much-needed solidity to United’s midfield.
Donny van de Beek – N/A
Played too little to warrant a rating.
