Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has said he’ll do everything to protect Ben Woodburn after the teenager became Liverpool’s youngest goal scorer breaking the long-standing record of Michael Owen.
Woodburn – at the age of 17 years and 45 days – broke the record when he scored the second goal against Leeds United that later proved to be the winner. This was only his second appearance after the Sunderland match.
Klopp handed start a number of academy graduates including Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria. The gaffer is an avid admirer of young talents and would love to have the academy prospects in his disposal.
Klopp said, “It’s all good. We know what Ben’s capable of.
My first job is to help these boys be the best. There’s a lot of things to do, especially to keep the public away as long as possible. That’s quite a difficult thing to do
“But we only bring him when we want to use him. That means when he is on the pitch he is absolutely allowed to score goals.
“I am really happy with him, the only problem is I am a little afraid about you (the press).”
