AS has recently revealed that Real Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal could return from injury versus Liverpool next month. It is believed that the Spanish defender has resumed light training after recovering from his hamstring injury and could be ready to return for Los Blancos ahead of the business end of this season (via AS).
Carvajal’s Injury-Plagued Season At The Spanish Capital
It has been a campaign full of frustrations for Carvajal as he has missed a lot of games because of multiple injuries. The Leganes-born talent has been involved in 12 matches for the Spanish giants this term, picking up four assists and five yellow cards in various competitions.
Despite his growing injury struggles, the 29-year-old has done well to average 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in La Liga. Carvajal has also been excellent with his ball-distribution based on his pass success rate of 84.1% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
With some key fixtures coming up against Eibar, Liverpool and Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane would welcome the return of Carvajal as he could use a player of his experience to turn Madrid’s fortunes around for the better in the final stage of this campaign.
What Does The Spanish Sensation Offer On The Field?
Carvajal is a quick and agile right-back who loves to make some driving runs with the ball down the right flank. Even though he is not as attack-minded as someone like Lucas Vazquez, yet he is a far better defender at the back.
The 25-time Spain international can sense the danger quickly and is not shy of clearing his lines when needed. He can also time his tackles well to win the ball back for his side and usually maintains a solid shape on the defensive end of the field.
Carvajal Could Return Vs Liverpool: Big Boost For Los Blancos?
Carvajal has won multiple major trophies under Zidane’s tutelage, so his return from injury would be a welcome boost for the Madrid giants ahead of the exciting two-legged Champions League quarterfinal showdown versus Liverpool.
Los Blancos need all of their star players back if they are to have any hopes in Europe this season. However, they will have to do it the hard way by beating the mighty Reds of Merseyside. Having Carvajal back for that tie will be crucial as he has the experience to cope with Sadio Mane’s threat out on the flanks. Plus, the Spaniard has won the Champions League four times with his current employers, so he knows how to put in a big performance when the spotlight is on him.
