Recent reports from Spanish media outlet AS suggest that Premier League giants Manchester United are keen on signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente in the summer transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to add to his options at the centre of the park.
The report further states that the Red Devils are plotting a bid of around 80 million Euros for the Spanish midfielder, who could well be on his way to Old Trafford if Atletico Madrid negotiate a fair deal.
Llorente’s Amazing Season At The Wanda Metropolitano
From scoring two decisive extra-time goals against Liverpool last year to scoring in added time versus Athletic Bilbao earlier this month, the 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers of his side over the past twelve months.
With 17 goal contributions in 28 league appearances for The Rojiblancos so far, Marcos Llorente is having an extraordinary season in La Liga and is one of the main reasons behind Atletico’s surge to the top of the league table.
Going by his stats, the Spaniard has put up some impressive numbers on the board this season – averaging 2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1 key pass, 1.2 shots, 0.5 crosses, 1.3 long balls, and 1 dribble per 90 minutes in the Spanish top flight. Besides, with an overall WhoScored rating of 7.23, the Spanish international has established himself as one of his team’s most influential players this term.
It’ll be an understatement to say that he’d be a great addition to the present United midfield.
What Will He Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Nemanja Matic will turn 33 in August, whereas Paul Pogba seems set to leave the club in the coming months. Marcos Llorente can act as a direct replacement for the Frenchman in the long term but could be asked to fill in the defensive midfield position initially.
The Spaniard’s arrival at Old Trafford will undoubtedly strengthen Solskjaer’s midfield department, and he could potentially be the final piece of the puzzle the Norwegian tactician needs to turn Manchester United into serious title contenders.
Having said that, Llorente doesn’t seem convinced with the idea of leaving the Spanish side anytime soon; however, Atletico Madrid might be willing to accept the offer as the humongous transfer fee will help them cope with the economic fallout of the Covid-19 crisis.
