Everton are facing a big stumbling block in pursuit of Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez as AS has revealed that Bayern Munich are in advanced negotiations with the player who is set to become a free agent at the end of this campaign. El Gol Digital had claimed earlier this month that the Toffees want to acquire the signature of the Spanish wide player this summer, so this latest development will deter Carlo Ancelotti’s hopes of signing him this summer.
Vazquez’s Influential Role At The Spanish Capital This Season
Vazquez is having another impressive campaign with the Madrid giants as he has put in a string of solid displays on the right flank. He is primarily a right-sided winger but has also been deployed at right-back at times by Zinedine Zidane this season.
The 29-year-old has found the back of the net twice and provided seven assists in 31 appearances for Los Blancos this term across various competitions. Vazquez has made an impact at both ends of the field after averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per match in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. He has done well to complete 88.4% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
The way Vazquez has been playing this season, it is no wonder that Bayern Munich and Everton are taking an interest in landing him during the summer transfer window. He has been a valuable asset for Real Madrid and would be a decent acquisition for any top club in Europe, including the Toffees.
What Will The Spanish Wide Player Bring To The Table?
Vazquez loves to make some clever runs down the right-wing and can whip in some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box. He is always willing to be adventurous in the final third and can contribute by scoring and setting up his fair share of goals going forward.
The Spaniard usually works his socks off both on and off the ball. Furthermore, he can strike the ball with power that makes him a goal-threat from long range. Vazquez is also improving the defensive side of his game which makes him a good option for the right-back position.
Bayern Munich In Advanced Talks With Vazquez: Massive Blow For Ancelotti?
If AS’s claims are accurate about Hans-Dieter Flick’s side leading the race to sign Vazquez, it will be a big blow for Everton as they are unlikely to have the lure of Champions League football to compete with the Bavarian giants in the summer transfer market.
Vazquez would have served as a great long-term successor to Seamus Coleman, who is in the last legs of his career at Goodison Park. Ancelotti should now look at other options if he wants to strengthen his squad for another top-four push in the Premier League next season.
