In a recent report, Sky Sports has claimed that Manchester City have identified Southampton striker Danny Ings as Sergio Aguero’s replacement. It is understood that Man City consider the Saints centre-forward as an ‘attainable option’ and could make a move for him this summer (via Sky Sports).
Ings’ Impressive Form Under Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Stewardship
Ings is having a solid season at the St. Mary’s Stadium despite missing some key matches because of multiple injuries. The ex-Liverpool attacker has banged in nine goals and earned three assists in 25 matches for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side this term across all fronts.
The Winchester-born sensation has given a good account of himself on the field as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. However, Ings has been a bit disappointing when distributing possession with others around him after making just 64.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
As long as the 28-year-old can steer clear of injuries, he is more than capable of serving as a decent squad player at the Etihad Stadium if Man City boss Pep Guardiola decides to acquire his services when the summer transfer window commences later this year.
What Will The English Frontman Add To Guardiola’s Side?
Ings has a good football IQ and can get himself into some dangerous areas in the final third. He is a lethal finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can also set-up some decent chances for others around him. The talented forward has got a good leap in him and usually works his socks off for the benefit of his side. However, the English marksman tends to give away the ball cheaply at times which can make him a frustrating figure up top.
Is Ings The Right Choice For Man City?
At the moment, Man City are in dire need of a suitable replacement for Sergio Aguero, so Ings fits the bill perfectly as he will add a lot of goals to Guardiola’s attack if they end up getting a deal done for him before the start of the new season.
At 28, Ings is currently playing at his prime and has still got a few good years left in him to perform at his best. Hence, the Saints star could be a good choice for the Mancunian giants to consider during the summer transfer period.
Ings has already proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in the Premier League and will add some healthy competition for Gabriel Jesus in the coming seasons. All in all, he would a safe option for Man City as the likes of Erling Haaland, who is another one of Man City’s summer targets, could command a much higher fee in this off-season.
