Despite all of Real Madrid’s injury struggles this season, they have somehow kept the boat stable and weathered the storm on almost all possible occasions. The credit for the same can be largely attributed to a handful of players who have performed exceptionally well for Zinedine Zidane this season. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid are able to keep the momentum going for the coming few crucial months. The 4th Official lists out three of the Whites best performers this season –
Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema has been in the form of his life despite struggling with injuries a bit. In just 29 appearances this season, the Frenchman has amassed 20 goals across all competitions along with 5 assists as well. In the shadows of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema was largely unappreciated at the Spanish capital. However, the turnaround has been exceptional and Benzema has assumed large chunks of responsibilities in the team and risen to the occasion in the perfect manner. The striker’s opening goal midweek against Atalanta was pivotal in sending Real Madrid through to the quarter-final stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Luka Modric
The Croatian has been in the form of his life this season and age does not seem to be catching up on Modric. After fizzling out slightly post his Ballon d’Or triumph, Modric has hit the higher gears with relative ease and machine-like consistency this season. The player has made things look calmer and in control in the centre of the park with his astonishing ball dribbling abilities.
Modric adds much more than just goals and assists to the team with his sharpness and presence of mind. With heaps and tons of experience in his footballing career, Modric has delivered performances for Zidane week in week out. The 35-year-old midfield wizard has scored four goals this season and assisted a further three. If Los Blancos do end up winning any sort of silverware at the end of the season, Luka Modric will certainly be one of the driving forces behind it.
Thibaut Courtois
Thibaut Courtois has had an astonishing season to say the very least. The lanky Belgian has stepped in and delivered stellar performances each time the Whites have been in a spot. With 14 clean-sheets to his name across all competitions, Courtois is undoubtedly one of Real Madrid’s top performers. Courtois has made some crucial last-minute interventions that have kept Zidane’s team alive in the Primera Division title race. The manager will be expecting more of the same from the former Chelsea shot-stopper as we approach the business end of the season.
