In a recent report, The Sun has mentioned that West Ham United are ready to let Felipe Anderson leave this summer when he returns from his loan spell at FC Porto. It is believed that the Hammers are willing to cut their losses by parting ways with their underperforming asset at the end of this campaign as he is not part of David Moyes’ plans for the future (via The Sun).
Anderson’s Poor Loan Spell In Portuguese Football
Anderson has struggled to earn regular playing opportunities in Portugal since sealing a loan switch to the Estádio do Dragão back in October last year. The Brasilia-born playmaker has made nine appearances for the Portuguese giants this term, securing just one assist in the process across all fronts.
Most of his game time has come off the bench, which explains why Anderson is only averaging 0.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 0.3 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in the Liga NOS. He also needs to be more accurate when distributing the ball after completing only 74.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The 27-year-old’s career has come to a standstill, so it is no surprise that the Hammers are prepared to ship him out for a loss this summer. He is nowhere near the level he had once showcased on his debut season at the London Stadium.
What Does The Brazilian Attacker Offer On The Pitch?
On his day, Anderson can still be a decent dribbler with the ball as he has got the pace and trickery to get the better of his marker out on the wide areas. He packs a lot of power with his shot attempts and can get himself into some dangerous areas inside the opponent’s penalty area.
However, his lack of productivity in the attacking third has been a significant cause for concern this season. Maybe a summer switch away from the London Stadium could help the player get his career back on track.
West Ham Ready To Sanction Anderson’s Exit: Right Call By Moyes?
At the moment, Anderson is simply not good enough to get into Moyes’ first-team. With his West Ham contract set to run out at the end of next season, the East London club will have no choice but to cash in on him for a cut-price fee this summer or risk losing him for free next year.
At 27, Anderson has still got a few years left in him to get some form back and prove his worth at the highest level. However, the Hammers doesn’t have the luxury to be patient with him and are making a tough but right call by opting to move him on at the end of this season.
