Newcastle United face off against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns earlier this afternoon hoping to grind out a result on the road. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first half but were lacklustre in the attacking third as they went into the half-time interval with nothing to split them.
It was a similar story in the second 45 minutes as the contest ended 0-0 with the Magpies securing a much-needed point at the West Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the match against the Baggies.
GK: Martin Dúbravka – 8/10
The Newcastle keeper had to make some solid saves during the game to keep his clean sheet intact.
RB: Emil Krafth – 7/10
Krafth performed his defensive duties well and had some bright moments in the West Brom half.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 7/10
The English defender was strong in the air and made several important clearances at the back.
CB: Ciaran Clark – 8/10
He came to his team’s rescue multiple times and was not shy of putting his body on the line to block a few shots from the Baggies as well. Clark also won some crucial aerial duels for the Magpies.
LB: Paul Dummett – 6.5/10
Dummett didn’t put a foot wrong in the game inside his half but offered very little going forward.
CM: Isaac Hayden – 7/10
He won a lot of headers and disrupted the opposition’s rhythm in the game at the centre of the park.
CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 8/10
The former Liverpool midfield ace protected his teammates at the back with all he got and was also lively in the opposition half.
CM: Jeff Hendrick – 6/10
He struggled to get a foothold in the game and was replaced early in the second half.
CAM: Joe Willock – 6.5/10
Willock created one good chance in the final third but didn’t do nearly enough to get himself a goal or an assist.
ST: Ryan Fraser – 6.5/10
He created a couple of decent opportunities for others around him but never looked like he had a goal in him
ST: Joelinton – 6.5/10
The Brazilian striker ran a lot but missed a couple of inviting chances to find the back of the net.
Substitutes:
ST: Dwight Gayle – 6/10
His impact on the game was minimal.
ST: Andy Carroll – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
