According to The Mirror, Leeds United are tracking Stade Brest left-back Romain Perraud. Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly keen on bolstering his options in the fullback department, with Perraud being one of the players highly valued by the Argentine tactician. The player has recently come out as a Chelsea fan but that shouldn’t deter Victor Orta from launching a bid this summer.
Who Is Romain Perraud?
A former member of the OGC Nice youth team, Romain Perraud has become one of the premium fullbacks in Ligue 1 with his performances at Stade Brest. The player had initially joined the club for a fee of just €2 million in 2019 – a move that has turned out to be quite a bargain for Les Pirates.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has become a first-team regular at Stade Brest, making 51 competitive appearances during his ongoing spell at the club. His performances this term have been particularly impressive, with the fullback being involved in eight goals.
Perraud’s efforts have greatly contributed to Brest’s impressive attacking record that is currently among the best in the second half of the Ligue 1 table. It is indicative of the Frenchman’s ability to move forward and influence the game in the final third.
Perraud is particularly impressive when it comes to crossing the ball, making him quite a useful source of creativity down the left flank. In addition, he has the tenacity and the work-rate that tunes in well with the traits he offers.
Is He A Viable Option For Leeds?
Leeds United have struggled with their lack of depth in the fullback department this season. It has been evident on the left-hand side where the absence of Stuart Dallas has left Bielsa to rely on Ezgjan Alioski.
While the Macedonian international is undoubtedly a quality talent, he does lack defensive discipline. It doesn’t bode well for the Whites, who have attained one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League this term.
In Perraud, Leeds United could be handed a more natural alternative for Dallas in the left-back role. It will not only strengthen the depth of the defensive backline but should also allow Bielsa to deploy Alioski in his natural attacking role.
Perraud’s attacking qualities, coupled with his hard-working nature tunes in well with Bielsa’s philosophy as well – making him a viable target for the Yorkshire outfit in the upcoming summer transfer window.
