Aston Villa entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park earlier this evening as they looked to earn a victory at home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but cancelled each other out as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The second half was more of the same as the two sides struggled to be clinical in the final third. The match finished with the Villans securing an unimpressive 0-0 draw from this Premier League game.
Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player performed during the contest against Wolves.
GK: Emiliano Martinez – 7/10
The Argentine keeper made some crucial saves during the game and earned a deserved clean sheet at Villa Park.
RB: Ahmed Elmohamady – 7/10
He was solid at the back but failed to influence the game too much in the opposition half.
CB: Ezri Konsa – 7/10
Konsa was excellent when distributing the ball out from defence and pulled off a few important clearances for his team. He will be happy with the clean sheet this evening.
CB: Tyrone Mings – 7/10
Mings commanded his penalty box with authority and cleared the danger quickly when required.
LB: Matt Targett – 6.5/10
He performed his defensive duties well but failed to make an impact in the attacking third.
CM: John McGinn – 7/10
The Scottish midfield ace was not shy of getting stuck in with some tackles and even engineered a couple of decent chances in the Wolves half.
CM: Douglas Luiz – 7/10
The Brazilian midfielder disrupted Wolves’ rhythm in the game and won on the ball back twice for his side during the 90 minutes. However, he struggled to get himself involved offensively.
CM: Morgan Sanson – 6.5/10
Sanson tried his best to get hold of the ball and even made a couple of promising runs from midfield. He got substituted at the hour mark.
RW: Bertrand Traore – 6/10
Traore tracked back to help out in defence when needed and orchestrated just one good chance throughout his time on the field. He ran out of ideas and got replaced in the latter stages of the game.
ST: Ollie Watkins – 6/10
He had plenty of chances to find the back of the net but was toothless in front of the Wolves goal.
LW: Trezeguet – 7/10
The talented wide player deserves credit for helping out his teammates at the back. He also created one meaningful opening at the decisive end of the pitch.
Substitutes:
CM: Ross Barkley – 6/10
He added some freshness to the Villa midfield.
ST: Keinan Davis – 6/10
The English striker offered very little after coming off the bench.
RW: Jacob Ramsey – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
