Matchday 13 saw another performance of substance from Chelsea as they dug in and eventually came from behind to end Tottenham Hotspur’s unbeaten streak in the League. It eventually proved to be Unlucky 13 for the Lilywhites who, despite a dip in attacking statistics, had preserved their unbeaten status till the match.
Manchester City also showed their new-found ability to win ugly as two scrappy goals saw them beat Burnley 2-1. United again succumbed to a draw as they were unable to get the better of a dogged West Ham rearguard.
With another weekend changing the dynamics of the table, let us briefly appreciate the 3 stand-out defenders of this week.
BRUNO MARTINS INDI (STOKE CITY)
Stoke City went into the match against Watford with a shock home defeat against Bournemouth fresh in their minds.
Their 6-match unbeaten run was snapped by the Cherries and Mark Hughes knew a similar result against the Hornets would seep all the energy out of them.
But Stoke produced a determined display and eventually came through with an away clean sheet and 3 points. Bruno Martins Indi, who came in for a lot of flak initially, has turned things around and was deservedly their best performer.
He made 4 interceptions and 11 clearances and played a pivotal part in their clean sheet. Will be crucial this season.
