According to The Athletic, as cited by Yorkshire Post, Manchester City are ready to offload Jack Harrison to Leeds United. The winger’s loan spell at Elland Road was extended by another year last summer, but it appears they are now prepared to part ways with the player permanently in the upcoming transfer window. A fee of £11 million could emerge as Man City’s asking price for Harrison.
Jack Harrison’s Spell At Leeds So Far
Having oddly started his football career in the US, with Manhattan, Jack Harrison moved to Elland Road in 2018 in search of an opportunity to make a breakthrough in English football. He joined the club on a two-year loan deal, with the move turning out to be quite a steal for Leeds United.
Harrison immediately became a key player for the team during his first season at the club, making 37 appearances. However, it was his performances in the following campaign that really caught the eye as the winger was involved in a total of 14 goals. His contributions were, in fact, critical to the club’s Championship-winning campaign last season.
As a result, Harrison’s loan contract was extended for another year, and while there were questions raised about his quality in the Premier League, the player seems to have silenced those critics. Indeed, the 24-year-old has been involved in ten goals in 25 matches, playing an integral role in Marcelo Bielsa’s well-oiled attacking unit.
Should Leeds United Bag His Services?
Securing the permanent services of Harrison for just £11 million will be no short of a bargain from Leeds United’s perspective. As mentioned earlier, the winger has settled in quite well at Elland Road, with his direct style of play and work-ethic tuning in nicely with Bielsa’s tactical setup. It is combined with his productivity – making him an essential part of the club’s offensive unit.
In addition, Leeds have had issues regarding the form and fitness of marquee signing Rodrigo, while Raphinha’s outstanding performances creates a layer of uncertainty regarding his long-term future. Helder Costa, too, hasn’t done much after an initial flurry during the early stages of the campaign, leaving Harrison as the only settled winger.
For a fee of just £11 million, therefore, the Whites could solidify one part of their creative unit for next season. In many ways, Harrison can also be utilised as an alternative, should Bielsa like to add more quality to his side by investing heavily in the market this summer. It will be interesting to see how things transpire over the next three-four months.
