Borussia Dortmund look to get to the semi-final of the DFB Pokal when they lock horns with Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday. The Black and Yellows are in a great run of form, having secured three back to back wins in all competitions. However, things could get tricky as they face a Gladbach side, coached by Marco Rose, who is set to take over BVB next season.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund Lineup Vs Gladbach
Defence
Borussia Dortmund were boosted by the return of Dan-Axel Zagadou on the weekend. However, Mats Hummels and Emre Can are more than guaranteed to retain his place at the heart of the four-man backline, in the absence of Manuel Akanji.
There could be one change at the back though, with Thomas Meunier replacing the inexperienced Mateu Morey at right-back. It will be interesting to see how the Belgian performs, as he is currently under pressure due to Morey’s excellent run of form.
Raphael Guerreiro is a shoo-in, on the opposite flank as the Portuguese international hopes to continue his good momentum this midweek. And finally, Marwin Hitz should complete the Borussia Dortmund backline, starting in goal ahead of Roman Burki.
Midfield
Borussia Dortmund are missing Axel Witsel due to a long-term injury while Thomas Delaney missed the last game. It leaves Mahmoud Dahoud as the favourite to operate in the double-pivot, alongside Jude Bellingham.
The Black and Yellows do not have too many options in the middle of the park, unfortunately, especially if Delaney continues to remain out.
Attack
Giovanni Reyna is an option, but coach Edin Terzic could prefer Julian Brandt in the wide attacking role. He and Jadon Sancho will look to provide creativity to the table from the wider position while club captain Marco Reus is hoping to influence the game with his movements and running from the number ten position.
Meanwhile, the BVB attack should be spearheaded by none other than Erling Haaland, who failed to score in the recent win over Arminia Bielefeld. The forward did, however, produce an assist for Reinier’s late goal.
The Brazilian remains an alternative, if needed, just like Thorgan Hazard who made his return to the pitch on the weekend. The former Gladbach man could be required in the attacking role or even as a wingback, with Guerreiro slotting into a central role.
