Manchester United will lock horns with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, hoping to pick up a positive result and continue their strong run of form in the Premier League. The Red Devils will be heading into the contest on the back of a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad, whereas the hosts recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a number of tweaks from the last game. David de Gea might get the nod over Dean Henderson, whereas Marcus Rashford looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Chelsea
Defence
David de Gea will return to operate in between the sticks for the upcoming home encounter. The Spanish shot-stopper made some brilliant saves against Newcastle United earlier this week; however, he’ll be hoping to secure a clean sheet this week.
Victor Lindelof will form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position, whereas Luke Shaw will return to fill in on the other flank as the left-back. The duo has been in blistering form over the past few months, and they would be looking forward to adding to their streak of impressive performances against the Blues.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic and Fred will fulfil the holding midfield positions, with the latter occupying a more central role. Nemanja Matic put up a strong performance against the Royals as he shielded the backline effectively throughout the ninety minutes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unsure about the availability of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani this week.
“We hope that they [Scott, Donny and Edinson] can be available for the weekend, but I’m not sure. Paul is still out for a few weeks, unfortunately.” – The Norwegian coach stated.
Bruno Fernandes, who was taken off after the first forty-five minutes against Real Sociedad, will slot into the attacking midfield role. The Portuguese playmaker will be looking to add to his goal-scoring tally against Thomas Tuchel’s men on Sunday.
Fernandes will be accompanied by Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood on either side, playing on the left and right-wing respectively. The duo will be looking to use their pace and directness to breeze past the Blues’ defence.
Attack
Anthony Martial will lead the line for the hosts against Chelsea. The French striker has found himself struggling in front of the goal this season, so he’ll be eager to impress against Chelsea this weekend.
As mentioned above, Edinson Cavani remains a concern for the upcoming away encounter.
