Liverpool entertained Everton at Anfield earlier this evening hoping to end their wretched run of form in the Premier League. The Reds made a horror start to the game as they conceded an early goal in the third minute when Richarlison scored with a tidy finish from close range. Jurgen Klopp’s men got some control back in their game despite their early setback but were toothless in the final third. The Toffees went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
The home side pushed up in search of the equaliser but struggled to be clinical in front of Everton’s goal. Gylfi Sigurdsson came off the bench to convert a penalty in the 83rd minute as Liverpool suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss in the Merseyside derby.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against the Toffees.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper couldn’t do much about Richarlison’s finish early in the game. However, he did pull off some world-class saves to keep his team in the game.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6/10
The English full-back showed great creativity with his passing but was let down by some woeful finishing from his teammates. Defensively, he had a good game until he gave a soft penalty in the latter stages of the match.
CB: Ozan Kabak – 4/10
The Turkish centre-back got outpaced by Richarlison in the lead-up to Everton’s first goal and was overpowered by Calvert-Lewin, which led to Trent Alexander-Arnold giving away the penalty late in the game.
CB: Jordan Henderson – 7/10
The Liverpool captain bossed the game until he had to come off with an injury in the first half.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 6/10
The Scottish full-back worked his socks off and showed great desire to get forward. However, his crossing let him down this evening.
CM: Curtis Jones – 5/10
Jones took too much time on the ball and lacked sharpness in and around the Everton penalty box. He ran out of gas and was subbed in the second half.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10
The Dutch talent produced another tireless display in midfield and retained possession quite well for his team. He went close to scoring a consolation goal late in the game but was denied by Jordan Pickford.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 6/10
The Spanish midfielder kept the ball moving but struggled to deliver a killer pass in the attacking third. He didn’t offer too much protection for his teammates defensively.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 4/10
The Egyptian winger gave away the ball far too often and lacked quality with his finishing during the 90 minutes.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 5/10
The Brazilian striker was quite effective when linking up play with his teammates but wasted several golden chances to find the back of the net.
LW: Sadio Mane – 4/10
The Senegalese winger was often second-best to the opposition and was guilty of squandering a few half-chances. He never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
CB: Nathaniel Phillips – 6/10
He was strong in the air but was at fault for allowing Everton to launch a fast counter, which led to Trent Alexander-Arnold giving away a penalty late in the game.
CAM: Xherdan Shaqiri – 6/10
The Swiss international offered very little after coming off the bench.
ST: Divock Origi – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
