According to La Repubblica, Leeds United are among clubs interested in Mikkel Damsgaard. The Sampdoria attacker has attracted a lot of attention from the Premier League clubs following his performances in Serie A. Tottenham Hotspur, in particular, have expressed their desire to sign the player in the summer, but could face stiff competition from Leeds United, West Ham and Southampton. Damsgaard is valued around €20 million.
Who Is Mikkel Damsgaard?
A left-winger by trade, Mikkel Damsgaard is a dynamic player who loves to take on defenders whenever he is on the ball. The youngster is blessed with an electric pace that makes him a scourge on the counter while he is also capable of finding teammates with clever passes in the final third.
What makes Damsgaard such a sought-after target for clubs is his work-ethic. Although a winger, the 20-year-old is well aware of his defensive chores and often helps out his teammates. He is, in fact, quite competent when it comes to winning the ball back for his team or at least making an effort to do so.
A product of the Nordsjaelland youth academy, Damsgaard joined Sampdoria last summer for a fee of €6.5 million. He has since grown in confidence, becoming a key asset in the club’s attacking unit. In 21 appearances, the youngster has been involved in six goals, which is a decent output from a 20-year-old.
Should Leeds United Make A Move For Damsgaard?
Leeds United are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements despite the fact that they have been one of the deadliest teams in the Premier League this term.
Apart from the first-choice offensive trifecta of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford, the Whites do not have much quality in depth, with Helder Costa and Tyler Roberts, in particular, struggling in the top-flight. Ian Poveda has shown a lot of promise but the youngster needs more competition and that is where Damsgaard could ideally fit in.
The Dane has already proven himself at the highest level of football and can emerge as an ideal competitor for not only Poveda but also Harrison on the left flank. It is also fair to point out that Leeds are braced to lose Raphinha in the summer following his blistering performances in the league this term.
The addition of Damsgaard, in that regard, should offer Marcelo Bielsa with a readymade replacement for the Brazilian, in case he leaves Elland Road in the summer. And for a fee of just €20 million, the Sampdoria winger could indeed be a bargain for the Yorkshire outfit.
