Everton entertained Fulham at Goodison Park earlier tonight hoping to pick up a positive result at home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but cancelled each other out as they went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
However, the Cottagers came out strong in the second half and scored the opener in the 48th minute courtesy of Josh Maja’s goal. It was Maja who struck again just 17 minutes later when he doubled Fulham’s advantage to leave the home side with a mountain to climb in the final quarter of the game. Carlo Ancelotti failed to come up with a response as they ended up losing the contest by a 2-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the clash against the Cottagers.
GK: Robin Olsen – 5.5/10
Olsen didn’t have much to do other than pick the ball up from the back of his net twice in the second half. It was a night to forget for the Toffees custodian.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6.5/10
He got stuck in with a few tackles and made one good chance in the Fulham half. However, Coleman got replaced in the 56th minute.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
Godfrey made a few important clearances during the game but was far from convincing on the defensive end of the pitch.
CB: Mason Holgate – 7.5/10
The English centre-back was a rock at the back as he showed great desire to challenge for the loose ball. He also cleared his lines when needed but all of his good defensive work went in vain after Josh Maja scored a brace in the second 45 minutes.
LB: Lucas Digne – 5/10
The French full-back struggled to be effective from the left flank and failed to create any meaningful chances in the final third. He also had a tough game defensively in what turned out to be an off night for the Toffees.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6/10
Doucoure worked hard but struggled to get a foothold in the game. He needs a rest to get his standards up again.
CM: Tom Davies – 6/10
The English midfield ace put his foot through the ball when called into action inside his half and made one good run during his time on the pitch.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6/10
Gomes tried his best to offer some protection for his teammates in defence but was lacklustre at the other end of the field.
RW: James Rodriguez – 7/10
The Colombian international was always looking to run with the ball and orchestrated a couple of decent chances for his teammates. However, he never got a sniff at goal himself.
ST: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6/10
The Icelandic attacker had a few shots at goal but was not clinical enough to bury his chances.
LW: Richarlison – 5/10
Richarlison struggled to get into the game but still managed to last the full 90 minutes. It was a toothless display from the Brazilian sensation tonight.
Substitutes:
ST: Joshua King – 6/10
The Norwegian forward never looked like he had a goal in him.
CB: Michael Keane – 6/10
The English centre-back offered very little after coming on as a second-half substitute.
RW: Bernard – 6/10
He never looked like he had a goal in him.
