Arsenal played hosts to Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up maximum points at home. The Gunners made a brilliant start to the game as they got themselves ahead in the 13th minute courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal. It was the Gabon international who doubled his team’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 41st minute. Hector Bellerin added another goal just before the half-time break to put Arsenal in a commanding position in the game.
Aubameyang completed his hattrick just two minutes into the second half but Leeds scored two consolation goals through Pascal Struijk and Helder Costa to salvage some pride as the North London giants secured an entertaining 4-2 victory at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player fared during the game against the Whites.
GK: Bernd Leno – 6/10
The German custodian made a few solid stops but won’t be happy after letting in two goals in the second half which extinguished his hopes of a clean sheet.
RB: Hector Bellerin – 8/10
The Spaniard did his fair share of defending at the back and gave a good account of himself in the Leeds half as well. He has also got a goal to show for his efforts.
CB: David Luiz – 6/10
The experienced centre-back made a couple of important interceptions for his side and did enough to limit the opposition from scoring more than twice during the game.
CB: Gabriel – 6.5/10
He was strong in the air and was not shy about clearing his lines when required. However, like many of his teammates, Gabriel won’t be happy about allowing two second-half goals.
LB: Cedric Soares – 7/10
Soares performed his defensive duties well and was a threat going forward as well. Mikel Arteta will be content with his performance this evening.
CM: Dani Ceballos – 7/10
He worked hard to win possession back for his team on quite a few occasions and ended the game with an assist to his name.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 6.5/10
Xhaka managed to engineer a couple of decent chances for others around him. However, he was sometimes slow to react when defending inside his half.
RM: Bukayo Saka – 8/10
The English attacker was full of energy and running out on the wide areas but there was no goal for him today.
CAM: Martin Odegaard – 7.5/10
Odegaard was bright and lively on the ball but couldn’t manage to bag a goal or an assist for his loan employers.
LM: Emile Smith Rowe – 7/10
Smith Rowe was a constant menace for the opposition during his time on the field. He also got an assist to his name.
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 10/10
The Gabon international managed to bag a hattrick which ended up making the difference between the two sides. He deserves to be crowned the man of the match.
Substitutes:
LM: Willian – 6/10
The Brazilian wide player offered very little after coming off the bench.
CM: Mohamed Elneny – 6/10
He added some energy to the Arsenal midfield.
CB: Rob Holding – N/A
Holding hardly had any time to make an impact.
