Liverpool will lock horns with Red Bull Leipzig at Puskas Arena on Tuesday night as they look to return to winning ways following a poor run of results in the Premier League recently. The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City last Saturday, so they will be desperate to bounce back by putting on a good performance versus Julian Nagelsmann’s men in midweek.
Jurgen Klopp will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make a couple of changes to his first-team for this UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg showdown at Budapest. Rhys Williams and Thiago Alcantara could both get a start at the expense of James Milner and Ozan Kabak.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Red Bull Leipzig
Defence
Alisson Becker will feature in between the sticks for the Reds after letting in three goals versus the Foxes in his last competitive outing. Rhys Williams could come into the side to play alongside Jordan Henderson at the heart of the Liverpool backline as they try to keep the Leipzig attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will be nailed-on to start at right-back while Andrew Robertson fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Klopp will ask both of them to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack so that they do not leave too much space behind them out on the wide areas.
Ozan Kabak, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Neco Williams will be available for selection on the bench as they offer cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Klopp’s midfield will be comprised of Thiago Alcantara, Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones as the talented trio try to establish their dominance at the centre of the park. All three of them will have to work their socks off towards winning the midfield battle and finding some holes in the Leipzig defence with their forward passes.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will make up the numbers on the Liverpool bench as they wait for their chance to shine as the second-half substitutes if required.
Attack
Sadio Mane will once again operate down the left flank while Mohamed Salah looks to produce another productive performance from the right. The Egyptian winger has scored in each of his past two appearances, so he will carry most of the goal-scoring workload for his team in midweek.
Roberto Firmino will once again lead the charge for the Reds down the middle. The Brazil international managed to pick up a sublime assist versus the Foxes, which will give him some confidence going into this European clash versus Leipzig.
