In a recent column with the Daily Star, former Arsenal winger Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to move in for Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane. Merson wrote, “Manchester United should also be in for him (Haaland). Edinson Cavani has done great there but he isn’t the future of Manchester United.
“If they went and got Haaland it would take them to another level. But do they go for Harry Kane instead?
“Kane isn’t going to Chelsea. No chance. But he might go to United. And that would leave Chelsea to go for Haaland.”
Kane’s Prolific Goal-Scoring Form At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium This Season
Despite Tottenham’s up and down season in the Premier League, Kane has enjoyed a decent run of form as the primary centre-forward of Jose Mourinho’s attack. The London-born marksman has struck a telepathic understanding with Heung-min Son with both of them carrying a significant bulk of Spurs’ goal-scoring and creative workload this season.
Kane has banged in 21 goals and provided 14 assists in 31 matches for the North London giants this term across multiple competitions. The 27-year-old has done well to influence the game at both ends of the pitch as he is averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, 3.7 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he needs to improve his ball-distribution after making 68.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Are The England International’s Best Attributes?
Kane has already established himself as one of the best strikers in world football. He knows how to find the back of the net consistently at the highest level and has done remarkably well to make himself a major source for goals as well.
The 48-time England international is a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal and understands the game well enough to get himself into some dangerous positions in the final third. Hence, a complete forward like Kane will be a massive coup for Man United if they decide to listen to Merson’s advice by moving in for him in the summer.
Should The Red Devils Get Kane On Board This Summer?
At the moment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood as his centre-forwards at Old Trafford. However, none of them can match Kane’s prolific goal-scoring record as they have been a bit inconsistent in terms of their overall productivity in the attacking third.
Cavani is way past his best and won’t be a long-term option for Solskjaer to rely upon, so Man United would be wise to engineer a blockbuster move for Kane in the future as he will undeniably help them challenge for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
