What a game we have on our hands in the midweek! It’s a Cup game at its very best! Liverpool vs Leeds United- this used to be a massive fixture in English football some years back but Leeds have been absent from the Premier League for a long time. The two giants of English football will lock horns with each other for the first time since 2009 and definitely this will be a game to watch out for.
Leeds United will travel to Anfield on Tuesday to take on high-flying Liverpool who looks to have what it takes to win the Premier League this season. However, both will be keen to win the game to qualify for the semis of the League Cup. Leeds are having an impressive season this time out under Monk and after many years, they seem to have a chance of getting promoted by the end of the season.
Liverpool qualified for the quarter finals beating the likes of Burton, Derby and Spurs while Leeds overcame Fleetwood Town, Luton Town, Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City to come this far. Liverpool are expected to start a weakened XI to keep their first team players fresh for the Premier League but Monk should go with his full strength.
Here is the predicted Leeds United lineup against Liverpool.
Defence
Veteran shot-stopper Robert Green will start between the sticks for the Whites. Leeds have been solid defensively this season with Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson impressing at the heart of the defence. Jansson missed the last game against Rotherham with suspension and should make his way back to the starting XI against Liverpool.
Bartley is expected to keep his place which means Liam Cooper will sit out.
Luke Ayling is expected to start at right-back ahead of Gaetano Berardi while Charlie Taylor is likely to keep his place at left-back.
