Hull City have been struggling since the start of the new season which happens to be their comeback campaign in the Premier League. After a troublesome summer transfer window where manager Steve Bruce left at a crucial time and a not so impressive transfer window, the Tigers’ were expected to find their life hard back in the Premier League and what happened, in reality, was nothing different.
The Tigers desperately needs a good winter transfer window in order to keep themselves in the Premier League next season and Mike Phelan has already started working on it. The Hull Daily Mail claims that he has personally scouted in-demand Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan earlier this week. The 24-year-old has shot to prominence this season, helping the Irish minnows to reach the group stages of the Europa League against the odds.
However, with his contract expiring at the turn of the New Year, Horgan looks all set to leave Dundalk and move abroad for a bigger challenge. A host of clubs is on alert in his current situation at Dundalk including Celtic, Newcastle United, Bristol City and Aston Villa as per previous reports but Hull City have a big advantage over Horgan’s other suitors i.e. their Premier League status. Most players dream of playing in the Premier League and the Tigers need to use this to their advantage.
The 24-year-old has scored nine times this term in the domestic League helping the Lilywhites clinch their third successive League title. Horgan has impressed in the Europa League too this term having scored once and assisting twice in four games. The Irishman is blessed with blistering pace and likes to operate mainly from the left flank. He is an orthodox winger who has a deadly eye for crosses. Hull City lack quality wide players and Horgan can be a solution to that.
The Republic of Ireland international can outpace most defenders in the world with his pace and can put deadly crosses into the area. He is predominantly right-footed but uses his weaker foot pretty well too. Hull City have lacked creativity badly this season and that is mostly due to lack of quality wide players. They mostly play in a 4-3-3 formation and Horgan will operate on the left if he moves to KC Stadium.
On a free transfer, Horgan can be one hell of a coup from the Tigers. However, the Irishman is yet to prove himself at the bigger stage. Being a free transfer, there is not much risk factor in Hull City signing him but the Tigers still need to sign 3-4 more quality players in January to save their season.
