Everton will entertain Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Wednesday night as they look to earn a victory and secure progression into the next round of the FA Cup. The Toffees managed to grind out an entertaining 3-3 draw away at Manchester United last weekend, which will keep them in high spirits heading into this cup encounter versus Spurs at Merseyside.
Carlo Ancelotti will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a few tweaks to his starting XI in midweek. Yerry Mina could return to feature in central defence at the expense of Ben Godfrey who will drop to the bench for this game.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Tottenham Hotspur
Defence
Robin Olsen will operate in goal for the Toffees despite producing a disappointing performance versus the Red Devils last weekend. Yerry Mina is expected to return to Ancelotti’s first-team and play alongside Michael Keane at the centre of the Everton backline as they try to keep Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Heung-min Son quiet during the 90 minutes.
Mason Holgate will continue to feature at right-back while Lucas Digne fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Ancelotti will ask both his full-backs to maintain a good shape at the back and try to offer some support to the front players.
As mentioned earlier, Ben Godfrey could get a rest on the bench but might come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Midfield
Andre Gomes will partner up with Abdoulaye Doucoure in the holding midfield positions as they try to get some control in the game at the centre of the park. The gifted trio of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and James Rodriguez will function just ahead of them as part of Ancelotti’s attack.
Both Doucoure and Rodriguez were amongst the goal-scorers at Old Trafford last weekend, so they will be full of confidence heading into this FA Cup showdown versus Spurs. Tom Davies will make up the numbers on the Everton bench as he waits for his chance to impress as a substitute if Ancelotti calls upon his services.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will spearhead the Toffees attack up top. The English forward scored a last-minute goal to salvage a point for his side on Saturday. Hence, he will fancy his chances of producing another influential display for his team versus Jose Mourinho’s men.
