Brighton and Hove Albion have included their new signing Moises Caicedo in the 25-man Premier League squad for the remainder of this campaign. The 19-year-old joined the Seagulls from Independiente during the January transfer window but is yet to make his debut his first-team debut at the American Express Community Stadium.
Caicedo’s Rapid Rise In South American Football
Caicedo came through the youth ranks of Independiente and established himself as a top performer in the Serie A Primera Etapa. He has found the back of the net on two occasions and grabbed one assist in 14 league appearances for the Ecuadorian outfit.
The Santo Domingo-born sensation has caught the eye with his performances in the Copa Libertadores where he has registered two goals and one assist in six matches so far. Caicedo is one of the brightest young midfielders in South American football, so the Brighton fans have every reason to be optimistic about their mid-season acquisition. However, there is no denying that the four-time Ecuador international is still quite raw and would need time to develop into a regular starter in Premier League football.
What Does The Ecuador International Offer On The Pitch?
Caicedo is a hard-working midfielder who has a good leap in him and is usually tidy when passing the ball from midfield. He is always willing to protect his teammates at the back and has also shown great desire to get forward and join in on the attack during his time in the Ecuadorian top-flight.
The South American sensation has also added a few goals and assists to his game. He has the potential to become a top talent in his position someday. However, the jury is still out on whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
Caicedo’s Inclusion In Brington’s 25-Man Premier League Squad: Wise Move By Potter?
Potter currently has Yves Bissouma and Pascal Groß playing as his primary central midfielders. Jakub Moder has been on stand-by as a cover for the midfield positions. Now Caicedo could play a similar role if there are any further injuries for the Seagulls to cope with heading into the business end of this campaign. All in all, it seems like the Brighton boss has made a wise call by including Caicedo in his squad. The youngster will get better in training while playing with other senior players and add more depth to Potter’s squad.
