Manchester United will lock horns with West Ham United at the Old Trafford on Tuesday night as the teams look set to resume their FA Cup campaign. The Red Devils will head into the contest on the back of a disappointing 3-3 draw with Everton whereas the visitors played out a stalemate against Scott Parker’s men last week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with numerous tweaks from the last game. Anthony Martial might get the nod over Edinson Cavani whereas Eric Bailly looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs West Ham United
Defence
Dean Henderson will replace David de Gea in between the sticks for the upcoming home encounter. The English shot-stopper has managed to impress whenever provided with the chance, and he’ll be hoping to secure a clean sheet on Tuesday.
Eric Bailly will replace Victor Lindelof to form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position whereas Luke Shaw will continue to fill in on the other flank, as the left-back. The duo has been in blistering form over the past few months, and they would be looking forward to adding to their streak of impressive performances against the Hammers.
Midfield
Scott McTominay and Fred will fulfil the holding midfield positions, with the latter occupying a more central role. McTominay put up a strong performance against the Toffees last week as he shielded the backline effectively and even got his name on the scoresheet in the second half.
Bruno Fernandes will slot into the attacking midfield role. The Portuguese playmaker was at his sparkling best against Everton as he got himself a wondrous goal, and he’ll be hoping to repeat more of the same on Tuesday.
Fernandes will be accompanied by Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood on either side, playing on the left and right-wing respectively. The English duo will be looking to use their pace and directness to breeze past the Hammers’ defence.
Paul Pogba was forced off the pitch around the 39-minute-mark on Saturday due to an apparent thigh injury.
“It seemed like a muscle injury. He’s fine, we’ll check him out tomorrow, and we’ll see how serious it is. I hope it’s not too bad, but he didn’t carry on so had to take him off.” – Solskjaer revealed in his post-match press conference.
Donny van de Beek will have to settle for a place on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the game if called upon.
Attack
Anthony Martial will lead the line for the hosts against West Ham as Edinson Cavani looks likely to be rested. The Frenchman has found himself falling down the pecking order after a streak of poor displays, so he’ll be hoping to impress against David Moyes’ men in midweek.
