According to Eurosport, Leeds United are set to make a move for Adama Traore. The Wolves attacker has been on the radar of the Yorkshire outfit, who are expected to table an offer in the summer transfer window. The Whites are likely to be boosted financially following their new deal with San Francisco 49ers, which could help them fund a move for Traore next season.
Adama Traore Is A Risky Option
Adama Traore was regarded as one of the most talented wingers in the Premier League not more than 12 months ago. Unfortunately, the attacker has struggled since, especially in the ongoing campaign that saw him fail to establish himself as a first-team regular under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The summer arrival of Nelson Semedo has restricted his overall game-time, with the 25-year-old mustering only 13 starts so far. His performances have also been well below-par as Adama has failed to get himself involved in a single goal this season. There has been a lack of penetration in his trademark runs forward, which has coincided with Wolves’ poor form this campaign.
As a result, the former Barcelona youth prodigy has fallen behind Nelson Semedo, Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence in the pecking order. His poor productivity this season also raises concerns over his overall quality and consistency – making him quite a risky target for Leeds United.
Do Leeds United Need Another Winger?
Despite his poor season in the Premier League, Adama undoubtedly boasts specific features that could make him an ideal fit under Marcelo Bielsa’s tactical philosophy. However, it is fair to point out that the Whites are not in imminent need of reinforcements in the wider attacking department.
The likes of Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and new signing Raphinha have already established themselves as key members of the first-team. Also, Leeds have a decent amount of depth in Helder Costa and Ian Poveda.
Although it won’t be surprising to see Costa or Tyler Roberts leaving the club in the summer, it might be a wiser option for the Whites to shift their attention towards a new striker. They have already appeared quite overreliant on Patrick Bamford while new signing Rodrigo Moreno has struggled with consistency at Elland Road so far.
The arrival of a new striker in the summer could provide some much-needed depth and competition in the number nine slot. Besides, Adama is likely to cost a fortune, and given his poor season, the Spaniard could indeed be a risky option for Leeds United.
