Tottenham Hotspur are in a desperate need of a win when they lock horns with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. The Lilywhites have lost three successive Premier League matches, and are now running the risk of being overtaken by arch-rivals Arsenal in the league table. Another mishap this weekend could also end their hopes of mounting a challenge for the top four places this season.
Predicted Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs West Brom
Defence
Jose Mourinho could fancy making some changes from the side that faced Chelsea on Thursday. Serge Aurier is a prime candidate to be replaced by Matt Doherty at right-back, but the unfortunate absence of Sergio Reguilon due to a muscle injury sees Spurs devoid of any other option at left-back, aside from Ben Davies.
There could be a change in central defence as well, with Toby Alderweireld likely to be rested on Sunday. It should pave the way for Joe Rodon to receive another rare starting opportunity alongside Eric Dier at the heart of the four-man backline for Tottenham.
Hugo Lloris, on the other hand, is a guaranteed starter in goal. In between the sticks, the Frenchman’s leadership should be crucial in helping the hosts get over the line this weekend.
Midfield
Harry Winks is a huge favourite to get the nod ahead of Moussa Sissoko in midfield. Mourinho’s decision to bench him in the last game didn’t exactly pay off, so he will be keen on recalling the Englishman, whose technical prowess could be useful in a game where Tottenham are expected to dominate the possession.
However, West Brom could be dangerous on the counter, so the onus will be on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to provide that extra security in midfield. The Dane wasn’t at his best against Chelsea and will be desperate to return to his top form on Sunday.
Attack
Tottenham Hotspur are set to be without Harry Kane once again, with the star forward suffering from an ankle injury. Carlos Vinicius was given the nod in midweek, but the Brazilian was awful. Hence, Mourinho could consider starting with Son Heung-Min in the number nine slot.
The change should see Gareth Bale get a rare starting opportunity in the Premier League. The Welshman should form Spurs’ creative trifecta alongside Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn, with Lucas Moura providing an alternative in the final third.
