Manchester United will lock horns with Southampton at the Old Trafford on Tuesday night hoping to pick up a win and return to their winning ways in the Premier League. The Red Devils played out a 0-0 draw with the Gunners last week whereas the Saints fell prey to Dean Smith’s men as they lost 1-0 at home.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Anthony Martial looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Southampton
Defence
David de Gea will operate in between the sticks for the upcoming home encounter. Having secured three clean sheets in his last five league matches, the Spanish shot-stopper will be hoping to add to his tally this week.
Victor Lindelof will form the centre-half partnership with Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position whereas Luke Shaw will continue to fill in on the other flank, as the left-back. The latter has been in exceptional form over the past few months and would be looking to pick up from where he left off against the Gunners.
Midfield
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in his pre-match press conference, confirmed that Scott McTominay should be fit to face Southampton in midweek. The Scottish international was forced off the pitch eight minutes from half time in the match against Arsenal due to stomach cramps; however, he is expected to start in the holding midfield position this Tuesday. Paul Pogba will take up the central midfield role, hoping to dominate things at the centre of the park.
Bruno Fernandes will slot into the attacking midfield role. The Portuguese playmaker failed to reach his usual standards against Mikel Arteta’s men, but he’ll be hoping to turn things around this time.
He’ll be accompanied by Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood on either side, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.
Donny van de Beek will have to settle for a place on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the game if called upon.
Attack
Anthony Martial will lead the line for the visitors against Southampton. The French striker has been struggling in front of the goal this season; however, he’ll fancy his chances of scoring when he faces off against the Southampton defence that has conceded six goals in the last three league games.
Edinson Cavani might be called off the bench in the second forty-five minutes if needed.
