Manchester City entertained Sheffield United at the Etihad Stadium earlier this afternoon hoping to secure a win and stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s men took the lead in the ninth minute courtesy of Gabriel Jesus’ goal. However, the Blades defended well to get into the half-time break just one goal down on the scoreline.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but couldn’t add to the goal tally as the contest finished 1-0 in favour of the Mancunian giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against the Blades.
GK: Ederson – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper didn’t have too much trouble during the game and cruised to securing another clean sheet at home.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
The English full-back was defensively solid but lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half as he failed to create anything of note during the game.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
Dias did well to snuff out the danger when called into action and was very tidy when passing the ball out from the back.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Frenchman was strong in the air and even made a good block to restrict the Blades from scoring throughout the 90 minutes.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7/10
He was always willing to get forward and had a couple of shots at goal. Zinchenko did not have too much defending to do inside his half.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
Silva made a number of promising runs with the ball in the Sheffield half but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
CM: Fernandinho – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace did well to breakdown some of the opposition’s attacks. Offensively, he was lively as well.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 7/10
There was no goal for Gundogan this time. However, he gave a good account of himself by creating some goal-scoring opportunities for others around him in the attacking third.
RW: Ferran Torres – 7.5/10
Torres was bright and inventive on the ball and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 8/10
The Brazilian striker gave his team the lead early in the game. He also went close to doubling his goals tally in the latter stages but was denied by a superb save from Aaron Ramsdale.
LW: Phil Foden – 6.5/10
The youngster engineered a couple of decent chances in the final third but never got a sniff at goal himself.
Substitutes:
CM: Rodri – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
