Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to recover from their disappointing defeat to Liverpool when they meet Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. It could be a vital game for the Lilywhites, who are being chased by arch-rivals Arsenal. A win this weekend could also be necessary in their bid to sustain their place in the race to finish in the top-four this season.
Predicted Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Brighton
Defence
Jose Mourinho could ring in a few changes from the side that fared against Liverpool. Toby Alderweireld, in particular, could come back into the team, at the expense of Joe Rodon. The experienced Belgian could thus renew his partnership with Eric Dier at the heart of Tottenham’s four-man backline.
Serge Aurier could also get the nod ahead of Matt Doherty at right-back following the Irishman’s poor defensive display in midweek. Mourinho, unfortunately, is still missing his first-choice left-back Sergio Reguilon due to a muscle injury, which means Ben Davies should continue in the starting lineup this weekend.
Hugo Lloris produced a below-par display against the Reds and was culpable for the two goals Spurs conceded. But, the Frenchman is likely to get the nod ahead of Joe Hart in between the sticks.
Midfield
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should continue in midfield for Tottenham this weekend. He was the only positive for the Lilywhites in their defeat to Liverpool and his overall understanding of the game could once again be critical against a Brighton team that boasts of a solid midfield unit.
Hojbjerg could be partnered by Moussa Sissoko in the double-pivot, although Harry Winks is also an option for Jose Mourinho. As for the number ten slot, Tanguy Ndombele, who surprisingly featured for the whole ninety minutes against Liverpool, might have to start once again, though the Frenchman is likely to be subbed off around the hour mark this time.
Attack
Mourinho didn’t provide a positive update regarding Harry Kane, who picked up a knock and was subbed off at half-time against Liverpool. His absence could force Tottenham to make some changes in the attacking unit.
Son Heung-Min is almost guaranteed to feature in a central role, even though Mourinho has the option for Carlos Vinicius. As for the wider attacking positions, there could be a major shuffle with Steven Bergwijn making way for Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale. It could be an ideal opportunity for the Welshman to finally make his mark this season.
